Teeth whitening offers a cost-effective way to upgrade your smile without making any dramatic changes. Our teeth absorb staining particles from food and drink, and this can lead to the teeth looking dull, grey, yellow or brown. Teeth whitening works by penetrating the tooth structure, breaking up the particles and flushing them out.
Our teeth whitening system starts with a one hour treatment in our dental office. We will then give you custom-made whitening trays for you to continue the treatment at home. The at-home treatment takes around two weeks and you will be able to wear the trays at night to minimise disruption to your life.
Your teeth may be a little more sensitive in the days following your treatment. This is because the teeth whitening chemicals make your teeth more permeable. This is a temporary effect and the small pores in your teeth will close again after treatment. Over-use of whitening treatments can cause permanent increases in sensitivity, so we will work with you to ensure your teeth whitening routine is safe and sustainable.
It’s important to care for your teeth after treatment to keep them looking white and beautiful. You might want to avoid staining food and drinks, such as tea, coffee, cola and sticky sauces like ketchup, barbecue sauce or teriyaki. You can also try drinking through a straw to limit contact with your teeth. And finally, you can also switch to a sensitive toothpaste to help control sensitivity.
